It's Fall and Time to Winterize your Horses | |
|
by Lorrie Norris
Fall is here and it's time to get your horses ready for the winter, what do you need to do in order to get your horse in winter condition? As the beauty of mother nature tells us with its ever changing shades of fall colors, winter is soon to arrive. Now is the time to get your horse ready for the up comming winter season. Now is the time to get in this seasons worming, be sure to change brands frequently for horses parasites become immune to wormers if the same is used at every worming session. Another consideration this time of year is the repairs we put off on our barns and run in's over the hot summer, now is the time to get those repairs done, its cooler and theres really no excuse to let them go any further after all you want a warm, dry, well insulated area for your horse when the weather turns into the cold dreary days of sleet and snow. Make sure all horse blankets are in good repair and ready to use, all buckles are in good shape and won't come unlatched and catch on objects out in the field. If you put a hood on your horse in the winter while turned out make sure it is in good repair also, you want to be sure there are no ways for your equine friend to get injured out in the pasture or in his stall by accessories in disrepair. With a bit of winter time creativity and alot of TLC you and your horse will have a safe and happy winter season and will be healthy winter explorers and springtime peepers.
